The main complaint with microfiber applicators is that they absorb too much product. In recent years, as expensive coatings have taken over the industry, complaints have only grown. Microfiber applicators make applying the coating product easier, faster and more efficient, but the coatings tend to have a lower viscosity (not as thick, flow more easily) so they penetrate the microfiber all the way to the sponge, wasting a valuable product.
Our solution to this problem is this mini microfiber applicator sponge. We have added a layer of a hydrophobic material between the microfiber and the sponge. This prevents excess coating product from penetrating the microfiber into the car wash sponge. It also limits the buildup of excess product that can become gummy and sticky as the coating begins to cure.
These mini applicator sponges are two-tone just to differentiate them from standard microfiber applicators, which do not have the product's protective hydrophobic coating. Both sides work exactly the same.
